May 2022 Meeting Recap:
Monitoring the integrity of the data used in Analytika AFDD.

During May’s Analytika users forum, we discussed data integrity and reliability. In order for Cimetrics to provide value through our Analytika AFDD platform, it continuous, secure, and reliable flow of data is needed. To accomplish this, Cimetrics utilizes a sophisticated monitoring system to continuously validate the flow and the integrity of the data we receive from each client site. This process was discussed and examples were shared.

January 2022 Meeting Recap:
Achieve environmental goals with Analytika

We started this year with an overview on how to achieve environmental goals with Analytika. Our users learned how to use Cimetrics ANALYTIKA to achieve their sustainability goals. Analytika experts reviewed common GHG reduction goals and our experts showed how Analytika can be used to meet those goals. Analytika users shared their experiences, approaches, successes and questions with other users and Analytika experts on hand,

November 2021 Meeting Recap:
BACnet Cybersecurity

This month’s event focused on building network cybersecurity, and more specifically, BACnet security and the new ASHRAE BACnet S/C protocol. Our Cimetrics subject matter experts, James Lee, CEO and Jim Butler, CTO walked us through a breakdown of cybersecurity vulnerabilities in building automation systems and explored the efforts underway within ASHRAE and other organizations to manage cybersecurity issues. Some of the great audience questions included:

Q:  Are (BACnet/SC hubs) hardware hubs or software hubs?

A:  BACnet/SC hub functionality will be implemented in software.

Q:  Are BACnet/SC certificates managed/assigned on-prem or from a 3rd party authority and are certificates also assigned to BACnet MSTP devices?

A:  BACnet/SC certificates should be issued by an authority that is locally controlled and unique to the facility. Some users will choose to create and assign their own certificates, and some users will contract with a third party to manage their facility’s BACnet/SC certificates.

Q:  What happens to BBMD with SC?

A:  BACnet/SC does not use BBMDs, but every system that has BACnet/SC devices must have at least one BACnet/SC hub.

Q:  Couldn’t you just physically tap the MSTP bus in a BACnet/SC environment and evade BACnet/SC protections?

A:  MS/TP networks do not have the cybersecurity protections that BACnet/SC provides. In the future, we expect that BACnet routers that have BACnet-specific firewall functionality will be used in order to protect devices connected to secure network segments (e.g. BACnet/SC networks) from undesirable messages sent by devices connected to less-secure network segments (e.g. BACnet/IP and MS/TP networks).

September 2021 Meeting Recap:
Getting Results at Jefferson

We kicked off our second  year of the Analytika Users Forum with special guest Randy Haines, Director of Energy Management at Jefferson and former AEE president. Randy and Cimetrics’ own Dean Taylor discussed Jefferson’s approach to engagement, implementation, and financing over the 7-year partnership between Cimetrics and Jefferson.

We explored strategies for breaking down barriers to implementation, efficient distribution of labor, and gaining organization-wide buy-in. The Jefferson-Analytika team worked together to develop a process that helped facilitate expansion from the downtown Philadelphia campus into 8 million square feet across 50+ buildings and 12 sites, resulting in over $2million/year in annual avoided energy costs and $125,000 in utility rebates.

March 2021 Meeting Recap

The March Analytika Users Forum started with a discussion on achieving utility incentives and ended on the benefits and strategies for monitoring-based commissioning on new construction! Thanks to all who attended and shared their process for achieving utility incentives and examples of issues Cimetrics Analytika has identified in new construction (think improperly installed equipment and inefficient sequences). The discussion helped our customers reprioritize their efforts to focus on high incentive eligible issues, and the utility professionals that joined our call helped clarify the program details and requirements.

January 2021 Meeting Recap

We had another inspiring Analytika Users Forum! Thanks to all who attended and shared their strategies for engaging their facilities teams by highlighting energy reduction achievements, fostering pride in helping their organizationcreating growth opportunities using the Analytika tools, and collaborating with utility program administrators.

We also discussed the growing importance of analytics for reliability, tools for load forecasting, and options for interfacing with a CMMS.

November 2020 Meeting Recap

We had an informative and inspiring launch to our Analytika Users Forum! Thanks to all who attended and shared their experiences rolling out Analytika across their campuses, using Analytika to prioritize and justify capital projects, and achieving utility incentives through Analytika’s recommendations and analyst support.

We demonstrated the use of the Analytika Utility Manager to track expected and unexpected changes in your meter readings during COVID and beyond, using the Analytika task assignment and tracking feature for resource deploymentidentifying faulty outdoor air sensors that could affect sequences of operations, and more!
